Science can be found all over my 4th grade classroom at Leon Springs. Each of the students has a science journal that they record experiments in, paste science worksheets, and write notes about science lessons they've learned about.
This is the white board that the teacher used to teach a science lesson about the seasons, as well as the rotation of the earth. Students filled out a similar worksheet that they then cut out and glued in their science journal.
The globe and light bulb are the way that the classroom teacher used to teach the lesson. The bulb represented the sun and the teacher walked around holding the globe demonstrating the tilt of the earth and it's affect on the climate of different areas around the world.
There are also science posters around the room showing the scientific process, life cycles, food webs, etc. If students need help while doing experiments, they can always look around the room for guidance on how to execute experiments. There are also science materials around the room that students use when doing experiments. In the corner of the class was a balance as well as plastic flasks.
Students all had different ideas about what science was when I asked them. Some students said science was exploring the world. Some thought that it was doing experiments. One student said science was nature and all the things that you find outside. Overall, students each had their own opinion about what makes science, but they were for the most part, all correct.
